Disassembly Mechanic – Team Lead

Working Hours

7am – 7pm for 7 days on a week-on-week-off basis.

Job Summary

The Disassembly Mechanic Team Lead is responsible for coordinating daily aircraft disassembly activities, allocating work to mechanics, monitoring progress, and ensuring that all operations are completed safely and efficiently. The role also oversees tooling, equipment, consumable stock, housekeeping, waste management, and the daily opening and closing of the hangar when required.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Work Allocation

• Print the daily harvest lists and assign each mechanic to the appropriate aircraft zone.
• Monitor part-removal progress across all zones and allocate additional work as required.
• Provide clear direction and support to mechanics throughout the working day.
• Lead and coordinate major component-removal operations, including flaps, landing gear, elevators, rudders, and fuselage sections.
• Ensure slings, hoists, lifting equipment, and associated safety controls are correctly selected, inspected, and set up before lifting operations begin.

Parts Identification and Storage

• Monitor the progress and accuracy of part tagging.
• Ensure parts racks are correctly assembled, clearly identified, and allocated to the appropriate aircraft Manufacturer Serial Number (MSN).
• Promote the careful handling and organised storage of removed aircraft parts.

Tooling, Equipment and Stock Control

• Oversee the tool cage and ensure all tools are correctly signed in and out each day.
• Identify and report damaged, defective, or missing tools.
• Submit orders through the EirControl system for replacement tooling when required.
• Monitor consumable-material stock levels and order replacement stock through EirControl as necessary.
• Regularly inspect slings, hoists, and other lifting equipment for signs of damage or defects.
• Report defective lifting equipment promptly to the Health and Safety Officer and ensure it is removed from service where appropriate.

Safety and Environmental Standards

• Monitor the ramp area, particularly around active aircraft teardowns, for foreign object debris (FOD), fluid leaks, and spills.
• Ensure mechanics complete daily FOD removal and use suitable drip trays to contain fluid spills. Monitor scrap-metal skips and arrange collection or emptying when required.
• Monitor waste-oil and waste-fuel tanks and arrange emptying as necessary.
• Monitor solid oily waste bins and arrange collection or emptying when required.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.

Vehicles and Access Equipment

• Ensure designated mechanics complete and record the required daily inspections of the 16 tonne forklift and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).
• Ensure all MEWPs and forklifts are cleaned, parked safely, and connected to charge at the end of each working day.
• Escalate any defects or safety concerns relating to vehicles or access equipment.

Housekeeping and Site Security

• Ensure all internal and external work areas are cleaned and all bins are emptied at the end of each working day.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the hangar, ramp, tool cage, stores, and aircraft teardown areas.
• Take responsibility for opening and closing the hangar when required, following all applicable security and safety procedures.

Supervision skills

• A problem solving mentality that deals with issues as they arise by giving clear, concise, time guidance and advice to Mechanics when issues arise.
• Able to be direct in communication when dealing with Direct Reports or to your own line Manager.
• Understands when to escalate an issue in a timely manner.
• Maintains a strong focus at all times on the overall objectives – balancing day to day tasks with issues that arise, always keeping the end goal in mind.

General Responsibilities

• Lead by example and promote a positive safety culture within the disassembly team.
• Communicate operational issues, equipment defects, stock requirements, and safety concerns to the appropriate department or manager.
• Ensure company procedures, workplace standards, and management instructions are consistently followed.
• Carry out other reasonable duties associated with the position when required.

Key Requirements:

• Industry qualification in aircraft maintenance engineering (EASA Part-66, FAA A&P) or similar preferred.
• Experience in aircraft maintenance essential.
• Forklift License desirable but not essential.
• Highly organised individual with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
• Ability to apply integrity and good practice across all activities and initiatives.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks taking ownership end to end.
• Good problem-solving skills to help remedy customer requirements.
