Shane Hennessy, Director of Origination & Trading – EMEA recently discussed the asset trading and teardown landscape with James Pozzi for Aviation Week.
In the exclusive Fast 5 Q&A, Hennessy shares how engine values and parts demand are driving earlier aircraft teardowns, and explains EirTrade’s plans to expand disassembly activities.
“Asset managers are progressively choosing to part out airframes earlier. Aircraft are being kept in service for longer, which tightens the supply of USM and, in turn, drives demand for engines and components. In this market, parting out often becomes the economic choice,” he explains.
“At EirTrade, we pride ourselves in identifying where the demand is and taking opportunities to meet it. It has been a running thread through our track record: in 2023, we tore down the first two 787s ever removed from commercial service; and earlier this year we partnered with RESIDCO to disassemble the two youngest A320neos to be torn down. Looking ahead to growth, we’re building out our pool of on-lease aircraft and engines over the next 1-3 years to ensure guaranteed feedstock for the USM pipeline.”
